National Trails Day hike with Badlands Conservation Alliance

June 1st @ 9:00 AM - 12:00 PM

Free
Badlands Conservation Alliance is hosting an outing to Theodore Roosevelt National Park on Saturday, June 1st, 2024 to celebrate National Trails Day in North Dakota’s only National Park. The group will hike a 5.3-mile loop in the South Unit of TRNP. Badlands Conservation Alliance Executive Director Shannon Straight will be guiding the hike.

Participants will meet at the Peaceful Valley Trailhead in Theodore Roosevelt National Park at 9:00 AM MDT on June 1st. The hike is moderately strenuous and will last about three hours. The loop includes sections of the Ekblom Trail, the Maah Daah Hey Trail, and the Big Plateau Trail. Participants will be required to cross the Little Missouri River at the beginning and the conclusion of the hike.

Hikers must bring their own food, water, sunscreen, first-aid supplies, and other gear. Hiking boots are required, along with water shoes or other shoes for the river crossing, which may be knee-deep. Tall grasses may be present along portions of the trail, so hiking pants are recommended. Wildlife encountered on the trail may include bison, horses, elk, pronghorns, coyotes, prairie dogs, and rattlesnakes. Be prepared for insects and direct sun with no shade. Participants must purchase an entrance pass to visit Theodore Roosevelt National Park. Badlands Conservation Alliance members and non-members are encouraged to join us for the hike.

Please RSVP on Facebook or by contacting Shannon Straight.
